Flatiron's Community Church donated a perfect 2001 Toyota Sienna Minivan, January 31, 2018. After removing the seats were able to go from picking up 6000 pounds of food in January to over 21,000 pounds in March. We continue to add more grocers and restaurants wishing to donate to our route!
We are currently looking for donors and sponsors. We have to find a permanent space to work out of for the summer where we will be able to refrigerate an freeze food (allowing us to solicit meat donations). If you are interested in sponsoring us or being a regular donor, please contact us. See our needs page for more insight into what we need.
In the first quarter of 2018 we fed 3.755 familes or 7,508 individuals. We did not track all the homeless nor did we keep good tabs on the food banks we donated to be more precise about the Impact of Brown Bag Ministries in our communities.
We are humbled to be able to serve and touch so many people.
We continue to serve our neighbors in transitional housing at a steady pace as well as neighborhoods along West Colfax. The vets are nicely settled in at 40 W Colfax and now we mainly provide fresh food donations. We have added the VOA - Aristocrat which houses homeless families, vets and individuals needing hospice care to our route as well.
The 1st and 3rd Saturday's of each month are serving the families at Quigg Newton (44th Navajo) and the 2nd and 4th Saturday's are serving North Lincoln Homes (14th Mariposa). Our first "5th Saturday" was a smash hit at Malholm Elementary (9th Harlan).
Denver Housing Authority continues to be a solid partner with Brown Bag Ministries, and has asked if we have the ability to serve more of their neighborhoods. We are assessing the list this week and will post if we take on an additional complex. Being able to utilize their recommendations and property to serve is a high quality event for us as we are able to serve a high concentration of people in need in one area.
The Denver Dream Center has an outreach into the Quigg Newton neighborhood the same days we are there. We have combined our events to drive excitement and participation. This is working out well, the kids are engaged, there is a bbq, music, pastors on hand and all the free groceries and clothing Brown Bag Ministries brings to the event.
We are so excited about what God is doing with Brown Bag Ministries! It has only been two months and we have secured several grocers, a fresh produce distributor, a Big Lots, and a couple restaurants to donate food and necessities.
We distributed turkey dinners for 176 families during the holidays, Christmas presents for children and veterans. We provided brand new winter coats for children through the school system and the weekly mobile food pantry is providing free groceries to roughly 100 families each and every week!
2018 is going to be a busy year. Not only will we run after what God has called us to run after, but we will be very busy building a solid foundation to be able to serve at a higher capacity. The ministry is in need of appropriate reliable transportation and storage. Please remember to keep us in prayer as God provides.
God is so good!
Thank you for your prayers and support.
